Other common names: Button Willow, Honey Bells

Mature Height: Buttonbush grows to a height of 5-12 feet with a spread of 5-8 feet.

Soil/Climate: This species prefers slight acidic and neutral loams that have a good moisture level. Not tolerate to low-light, Buttonbush needs partial to full sunshine to thrive.

Notes: Fragrant, creamy white flowers bloom in July and August that look like powder puffs. Nutlet type fruits then follow, hanging on well into winter. The leaves are bright, glossy green, 3 to 6 inches long. Native to eastern United States. Definitely a wetland shrub. Thrives in wet, swampy conditions, low-lying areas, around bogs and ponds.

Wildlife: Buttonbush flowers are preferred by many pollinators including bees, butterflies, and wasps. You can also find birds and ducks feeding on the plant. Although it is considered deer resistant, they might be found browsing on new growth if other food sources are scarce.
